With Intel’s shrinking product portfolio, it has finally happened. The lab team I work with is finally shutting down. With no customers contracted to order the results of our development, Intel has made the (probably correct, business-wise) decision to shut us down, rather than continue development for a product that no one is showing interest in.
This is sad for me, of course, since it has been my place of work for the last six years. My personal and professional growth while working as a contingent contract employee at Intel was honestly tremendous. I met and worked under one of the best bosses I’ve ever had. He understood my strengths and weaknesses and made sure to position me to capitalize on the first and minimize the second, resulting in an enormous boost to both my productivity and self-worth. So thank you, Dave Kaplan, for all you did for me. Enjoy your retirement, it is well deserved.
Now, however, I need to find another job. I have two weeks of time left before I will be relying on unemployment insurance for income, which to be honest isn’t enough to fully cover my expenses with the cost of living increases of the last four years. If I have another extended period of unemployment, I am looking at some lean times. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.
In the mean time, here’s some IT humor for you!
Ever had this kind of boss?
Every user everywhere:
You know it’s true…
Good luck, James, for future job opportunities. 🤞
And thanks for the cartoons. That Dilbert is one of my all time favorites, and I got the reference to PEBCAK from years working IT basic support. 😉
Good luck and godspeed in the job hunt!
