What an Absolute Class Act
Mighty Jingles is one of the best gaming commentators on YouTube, hands down.
It all started in 2012 when a slightly older Generation X gamer and former Royal Navy Veteran, Paul Charlton started posting his World of Tanks games on YouTube under the moniker, “The Mighty Jingles”, as a way of saving the ability to view them, due to a quirk in that company’s replay process which requires that the exact same version of the game that was used for the match be installed in order to play the file. Some joker then informed him that he should start commentating on these and other players replays, since it was apparent that he had the classic British understated humor combined with a nice speaking voice and the ability to misidentify any bit of military hardware at the drop of a hat (to the point where it’s become a meme).
Now, twelve years later, his major focus is still on two of the major releases from the same company, Wargaming.net’s World of Tanks (WOT) and World of Warships (WOWs). He also does commentary of many other games, most of which he picks out himself. As far as I know he has never accepted sponsorship or compensation from any game company other than as a member of the Community Contributor program for WOT and WOWs, both of which he left collectively by the end of 2018 due to shenanigans coming from Wargaming’s marketing and community outreach moderators, which to this day have garnered an enormously bad reputation for not listening to their player base.
All this is just an introduction to the personality that is Mighty Jingles, or as he calls himself during his WOWs replays, “Rear Admiral Jingles”. He has become so popular among the World of Warships community that his voice and likeness has been included as an playable captain in the game. But this article isn’t about his WOWs posts, rather it’s about todays World of Tanks episode which I will link with the picture below. This particular replay features a recurring player, Aurorik78, who is famous for his abilities with the light tanks of WOT, and is seen often enough on both The Mighty Jingles YouTube channel that he is basically a household name within the WOT community. A few episodes ago, Jingles mentioned that he’d gotten an awesome replay from Aurorik78, but that due to a still-unfixed bug in the WOT replay code, it completely lacked any engine sounds and was not the best material for entertaining content.
Of course, this was immediately challenged in the YouTube comments and Salt Mines Discord when fans and viewers insisted that he should still feature the replay, and instead provide the engine sounds himself…with his voice.
Quirky old man that he is, that’s exactly what Jingles did. What a Chad. A true Class Act. My hat’s off to you, Mighty Jingles! And congrats to Aurorik78 for yet another awesome game. To watch the episode, either click the picture or go HERE.
And so, I watch my first tank video. Just for the engine noises. Made me smile real big. That IS a class act.
